Classwork and Homework

Today in class we worked on identifying the elements of a good outline, and looked at student examples to help us as we create our own outlines. Secondly, we reviewed summaries--what they look like and strategies that will help you write one. Next, we read a persuasive problem solution essay, and wrote a summary as a class based on it. Lastly, we took a bonus point quiz on Academic A Vocabulary List 8. A link to the PowerPoint used today is below.

Homework:

• Sign up for and study for your midterm vocabulary test
• Sign up for writing conferences 
• Complete an outline for your Process Analysis Essay and submit it to turnitin.com by 5 pm tomorrow.
• Use this: Outline Template. This will be the backbone of your paper. Please use it!
• Some examples you can use are:
• Sample Paper 1
• Sample Paper 2
• Sample Paper 3
• Sample Paper 4

Requirements for Outline:

• Thesis Statement 
• Topic Sentences for each body paragraph 
• Support (details/examples) for each body paragraph 
• In-text citations with your summaries or quotes of support
• Reference page

YOU DO NOT NEED TO WRITE A CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH.

Thesis Statements: When you write your thesis statements, remember that it can change depending on what you want to say, and what the topic is. I will give you two examples of process analysis essays (one directional and one informational) below:

• Directional: In order to succeed in college, there are 4 steps that a future student must take.
• Informational: The constitution of the United States was developed in 3 important stages.
