Classwork and Homework

Today, we reviewed thesis statements from the homework that you did last Wednesday. Remember that thesis statements should:
  1. Be a complete sentence.
  2. Do not simply announce the topic. Instead, express an opinion, attitude, or idea.
  3. Express an opinion in your thesis statement, not just a fact.
  4. Focus on only one idea toward the topic.
Secondly, we talked about topic sentences and developmental paragraphs. Here is the PowerPoint that we used today in class.

Homework:
  1. Finish your question and topic sentences using the format below. Remember that you must have a question because it lets you know the “why” of your thesis statement. This can be typed or handwritten.
  2. Read “Support” pg. 23-24 in your textbook.

My thesis statement: ________________________________________________.
Question: __________________________________________________________.
Topic sentences:
  1. _____________________________________________________________.
  2. _____________________________________________________________.
  3. _____________________________________________________________.
